a) give reasons why alcohol rather than mercury,is used to measure a temperature of -60 degree celcius.
At -60 degree celcius mercury solidifies and becomes a solid,so it cant be used to measure the temperature inside a thermometer.
b)mercury rather than alcohol is used to measure a temoerature of 200degree celcius
At 200degree celcius alcohol vapourizes as a gas and so cant be used to measure the temperature inside a thermometer , but mercury remains as a liquid till 350 degree celcius.
